As someone who shares about essential oils as a job, (Yes, that’s my job!) I am surprisingly limited in what I can actually say about them. In this post, I'm going to be transparent about why that is and encourage you to find the information for yourself, that I can't give you. But the biggest thing that you will take away from this post is the mindset shift that YOU need about using essential oils.
I live in Australia so if you’re reading this from elsewhere, the finer details may be different but the overall theme is the same. Many countries have regulations in place to ensure that companies are making true, safe, claims about their products. Essential oils can be legally classified into three categories: complementary medicines, cosmetics, and food. Complementary medicines require a license to be sold in Australia and all claims about the recommended use or results of using the product must be consistent with that specific product’s license. This is a good thing for consumers and companies alike but in order to manage so many products, the system in place requires businesses to have a limited number of claims approved for use in advertising and on the product label. This means that I can’t give you a fully comprehensive description of what the oils themselves can do for your body! In fact, I am not supposed to make any claims beyond those stated in the product description…
What I can do, though, is tell you about some fantastic ways to educate YOURSELF on Essential Oils. These sources aren’t used in promoting a specific brand of Essential Oil and I must make mention that I’m not sharing them with you in order to promote the products that I endorse but as a tool for you to expand your knowledge on the profound effects that these plant oils can have on your body.
The fact is that you don’t have to have symptoms in order for you to be unhealthy. Some of us need a mindset change about our health. We need to be constantly doing things to support the systems of our body instead of waiting to attack symptoms when we become sick.
THE ESSENTIAL MINDSHIFT
Using oils as a medication is not my focus or my goal. My focus is to assist and support the body to do it’s job as efficiently as possible. If you come to me with a symptom such as a chesty cough, I'm not going to to give you a quick fix. I'm going to give you ways to support that system of your body moving forward.
We’ve been brought up thinking that you can just fix things instantly; take one pill one time and see results, but that’s not how we use Essential Oils. If you're using them to "cure" things or to combat symptoms, you aren’t going to get to see their full potential like you will through using them consistently to better your health and wellness.
This might be quite the concept to bring out in a simple blog post but here goes anyway. Medications are synthetic products made to artificially change your bodies function. They certainly have their place in the world - for example, if you have alarmingly high blood pressure, you may need something that will lower your blood pressure - but that school of thought can’t be applied to essential oils.
Essential oils won’t change any of your natural body functions because they work with the body not on the body. They help your body do what it was built to do, more efficiently. You don’t always want something that is going to do your body’s job for it!
Our goal in using essential oils is to support the body doing exactly what it was designed to do. We want to support your body’s organs and their functions.
What I’m not saying right now is that you should substitute prescribed medication with any products that I endorse. I am simply showing you that there are places for each of these things.
I can’t legally offer you “treatments” or “cures” to ailments but I wouldn’t morally either, regardless of independent research. Take your health into your own hands and consistently provide support to the systems of your body so that they are functioning optimally. Listen to the symptoms and don’t just treat them exclusively. Use essential oils to stay above the wellness line, not to simply get back up to it.
Knowledge is power so keep educating yourself!
Until next time
